Testify for Rosedale! DC Council Budget Hearing Info
Dear All,
Happy World Pride! I hope everyone heads to some events in the coming weeks as our city hosts this years event. The time has come to testify for Rosedale to the DC Council. Earlier this week, the Mayor released her budget. I am going to focus this newsletter on some specific Rosedale related issues and the agencies connected to them, but whatever the issues you are passionate about, I strongly encourage you to sign up to testify for that agency (schools, trash, etc.).
Before I dive in, I wanted to flag a few other things. First, I finally was able to get DGS to complete some minor repairs on the playground at Rosedale. We have a long way to go, but at least it is a start. In a similar vain, I continue to push every week for the lights on the field to be repaired. It is supposedly in procurement now. Additionally, RFK will be hosting a number of events in the coming weeks including Project GLOW, World Pride and VANS Warped Tour. Events DC has established an emergency phone number (202-249-340) for residents to reach out with any issues (trash, security, parking etc. ). As always, feel free to reach me at 7D06@anc.dc.gov or 202-455-6238.
Budget Testimony
Thank you to everyone earlier this year who provided feedback on our community priorities. Here is the list we developed. Below I am going to share the time of the DC Council Hearing in chronological order for some select committees and any relevant information for us. All the hearings are listed here and you can sign up to testify here or in the links below. Let me know if you plan to testify. Every committee allows you to testify virtually or to submit your testimony. This is a time to tell the Mayor and the DC Council to fund the things important to us!
06/02: Office of the Attorney General/Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement: The Rosedale Community has benefited greatly from participating in ONSE Building Blocks program through Together We Rise. We strongly encourage the city to increase the funding for our violence interrupters. We also encourage to expand the longevity of the contractors to give the individuals longer to build the program. Finally, we encourage the OAG Cure the Street and ONSE Building Blocks to be brought together under a whole of government public health based approach to reducing gun violence in DC.
06/05: Department of Parks and Recreation: We are happy to see the $683,000 for the Construction of the Rosedale Pool. We are asking for $10 million from the $36 million under general improvements to go towards the Rosedale Recreation Center, Football Field, and Playground including but not limited to fixing the roof, fixing/replacing playground equipment and surface, new seating and landscaping for field, fixing the press box (including ada compliant), upgrading the computer lab, redoing the senior room with new equipment, new storage area, smart board in multipurpose room, new scoreboard and hoops in gymnasium, fixing the entry ways and creating an emergency exit in the gym, extending the gym to the outdoor space with new equipment.
06/06: DC Public Schools
06/10: DC Public Library: We are grateful for the additional $1.05 million for the Rosedale Library Construction and have appreciated DCPL continual engagement with the community. We continue to encourage the library to build up and out on the site and encourage DC Council to continue to fund the construction in years to come.
06/10: MPD
06/12: Department of General Services: $10 Million for Rosedale Recreation Center and campus refresh (see DPR ask.). This is also a time to bring up the broken lights on the field.
